FBI WARNING! WHY YOU SHOULD ALWAYS COVER WEBCAMS WITH TAPE

FBI DIRECTOR GIVES THIS WARNING: 'PLEASE ALWAYS COVER WEBCAMS WITH A TAPE'

The director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) named James Comey has caused a stir by stating that he covers his computers webcam with tape!
While the thought of covering a webcam with tape seems like a weird one that the current boss of the world's most advanced surveillance agency would have to resort to doing. With the prevalence of hacking groups such as Anonymous, it is easy to understand why privacy has become such an important area. However, many have been surprised by the u-turn in his rhetoric as previously he held the view that the public should make their devices easier to access against current national security efforts.
Interestingly, during an interview with the US Department of Justice Assistant Attorney General John Carlin, Comey sought to defend what he had stated in the past while now holding the belief that people in the public should cover their camera on devices they use.
Carlin continued further and asked Comey about his current use of tape to cover the webcam he uses, and he replied: “heck yeah, oh, heck yeah.” However, what are most shocking factors is held in his views on responsibility for the safety of the public when using devices where he states “people ought to take responsibility for their safety and security.” This lets us know that the FBI are not afraid to change their views on what can represent a risk to public security in the USA.
He views the idea of taping the webcam for safety reasons as “sensible” and “things you ought to be doing” which further solidifies the practice as a good idea. However, it appears that he is not the only one that uses the technique. The authority of who can or cannot look at your data is in your hands by the use of tape!
