Huawei to launch a 360º phone camera
Huawei has announced a 360-degree still and video camera.
The Honor VR camera is a clip-on device for smartphones and will, says the company, deliver seamless live streaming and 3K photography as well as a genuine 360-degree experience.
That’s the good news. The bad news is that it won’t be available outside China for the foreseeable future, according to Engadget. What’s more there’s no details on price or launch date.
Neither is it clear whether the device has been designed just for Huawei devices, or will be compatible with other smartphones.
Although given that this week the Mobile World Congress is taking place in Barcelona, we should have more details soon.
If you’re not in China, and you can’t wait for your Huawei Honor camera but you’re itching to shoot 360-degree stills and video there are already a few options around – although not many clip straight onto your phone.
Maybe it's best to see if someone can take Facebook’s open source plans for its Surround 360 system and run with them. Until then, we’ll all just have to stick to being two-dimensional. Huawei will launch this 360º phone camera in China only for now.
