FINANCIAL PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT OF THE VENTURE
Going
into the business of making Toilet Wash is really a great way to earn
additional income. As long as I have a product with real quality and a good
marketing plan then I can surely make lots of money out of it.
It is amazing how much return on
investment (R.O.I) I can get on Toilet Wash from as little as N50,000 startup
capital.
Inspire of the competitiveness of soap, next to food, shelter and transportation, Toilet Wash soap is a basic need for everyone. With the knowledge that I have acquired from my ENT 302 Lecturer MRS MABEL A. OYENIJI, my product will never run short of demand.
A N7,000 worth of raw chemicals will produce up to 60 litres of Toilet wash.
If sold at N100 per litre, that will fetch me N6,000.
With good packaging, I could sell at N150 per litre and make N9,000 from my N3,000 Toilet Wash formulation.
If I AM able to repeat this process 15 times in a month, that should fetch me an amazing N90,000 income from merely re-ploughing my initial N3,000 again.

Making Money through Soap making
Have you fallen in love with
crafting soap? Have you started making soap for yourself and your family? Have
you been giving them away as gifts to friends and relatives for quite sometime
now? For now, soap making can just be a hobby for you but it can also be a
profitable money making venture! Of course the big question is:
How
do I start a soap making business?
Do not stress yourself by starting a
big business right away. You can start small and let things take their course.
However, you should at least have a business plan that you can follow to start
and make your soap making business grow. Here are some guidelines:
Read
about it.
Research and read up on the business
side of soap making. There are many forums and materials available on the
Internet these days. You can also check out books discussing how to make money
through soap making. Look for success stories (and even “failure stories”) and
find out what they did when they first started out. Learn about the problems
they encountered and how they got past it. The information you gather through
researching will help you decide whether you are really ready to take this big
step or not.
Going
part time or full time.
Going into business full-time may
take up most of your time and resources. Thus you can decide to start on a
part-time basis by working at home and get the feel of the business first
before you decide to take that giant step. You can start by making 1 or 2
batches of your soap varieties and start direct selling them to friends and
family. With this method you can assess how your business will go and you can
start planning for bigger opportunities. When you go for the big time then you
will have to plan for a bigger shop space, get your licenses and put in a
bigger investment.
Start
with a small investment.
You can start small by just making
melt and pour or glycerin soaps. No need to buy new equipment because most of
the things you will need are available right in your kitchen. Even your
ingredients are easily available. Why start with melt and pour or glycerin
soaps? Well, aside from the fact they are easy to make, it is not that
hazardous to create because you do not need to use lye. You can even start with
a line of bath bombs or bath fizzies which take only a few minutes to make.
Develop
your own line of soaps.
Make a line of soaps, liquid soaps
and bath bombs taking into consideration their scent or purpose. For example,
you can create a line of lavender mint soaps from travel-sized soaps to large
soaps with matching liquid soap and bath bombs. You can even create a line of
soaps for special occasions like a set of Christmas soaps using different molds
and in different scents. You can also create a line of moisturizing soaps in
different colors and using different essential oils that can all moisturize,
soften and sooth the skin. Whatever you do be sure that your products are
always of the highest quality.
Create
your own signature soaps.
Create your own blend by
experimenting on a combination of essential oils at the same time creating your
own brand of signature soaps. Ask your friends and relatives which of the soaps
you gave away have created an impression on them. From the information you
gather, you can experiment until you have created your own blend which will
help in giving your soaps a unique identity. Since you are dealing with skin
care products, be sure that you have tested them on different types of skin
before releasing them in the market.
Creative
packaging.
Presentation can make a difference
in your business venture. Your customers are usually women, and they get
attracted by colorful and beautifully-designed packaging. Take the time to
design your own brand of packaging, something that people will identify with
your soaps wherever they see it.
Take
care of the legalities.
When you are ready to go into big
business, be sure to take note of laws and regulations in your area for setting
up your kind of business. If you are going into cold or hot methods of soap
making, take note of laws regulating the use of hazardous or dangerous
chemicals like lye or safety laws for you and your workers. Taking care of the
legalities from the very beginning will spare you of any problems with the law
in the future.
gain.
How to Start a Liquid Soap Making Company from Home
Liquid
soap is fast replacing detergents, bars and block soaps in most kitchens, car
wash garages, toilets and laundry halls generally. This is so because over
time, it has been proven that liquid soap is more effective when used to wash dishes,
cars and even hands and this is no wonder that the sale has continued to reach
the zenith.
Despite
the fact that loads of entrepreneurs are delving into soap making, the fact
still remains that the market for liquid soap is huge and will still continue
to grow because it is a necessity for most homes, offices, canteens, laundry
shops, amongst others. That means if you truly want to make it big in this
business, you must be willing to work hard to be able to gain your own fair
share of the market.
So,
if you are looking to start a business that requires low start – up capital and
little or no training, then you may want to tinker with starting your own
liquid soap company. The good thing about this kind of investment is that you
can start it on a small scale level from your home and then grow to a bigger
facility if there is a boom.
Furthermore,
if you are sure that starting a liquid soap making company is the right business for you to go
into, then you should go through the following steps that can guide you to
start your own liquid soap making company from the scratch and build it to
profitability.
Starting a Liquid Soap Manufacturing
Company – Sample Business Plan Template
Some
experts have said that you can tell the seriousness of an entrepreneur by just merely
looking through his or her business plan. A good business plan is the working
manual every entrepreneur needs to start and grow his or her business upon.
Therefore,
be sure to work hard at drawing up a business plan if you intend starting your
own liquid soap company. This you can be able to do if you have background
knowledge of how to go about things. However, on the other hand if you do not
have inkling on how to start, then you may seek the services of an expert.
3.
Acquire Liquid Soap Making Skills
There
are many vocational centers where liquid soap making skills is being taught and
the good news is that it is relatively cheap and affordable to learn the trade.
You can also learn directly from someone who is already into the liquid soap
making venture. There is no doubt you would be required to acquire this skill
before launching your own liquid soap company.
This
is important because you might most likely be the only one running the business
from the very beginning especially if you have startup low capital and if you
choose to start it small. The time required for learning liquid soap making
skills is short; as a matter of fact, you can learn the skills in a day or more
depending on your teacher and your ability to learn fast. You can also learn
liquid soap making skills from the internet or from books and videos.
If
you don’t have the capital required to rent a facility for your liquid soap
making company, you can start from your home – it’s cool. But if you intend
starting your liquid soap business on a large scale, then you should look for a
decent and spacious facility to rent.
You
may want to contact your realtor for the kind of facility you are looking for
and you can be sure to get your desired choice of space. It is advisable not to
spend fortune renting a facility, because with this kind of business, your
production base can be located in the outskirt of town where you can get cheap
facility for lease.
5.
Purchase the Required Equipments
The
next thing to do having rented and put your facility in order is to purchase
and install the required liquid soap making equipments. The equipments needed
for liquid soap making include:
Liquid
soap making machine, heat resistance plastic or stainless steel pitcher with
lid, big stainless steel or plastic spoon, Stainless steel measuring spoons,
measuring cups, small beakers, stick blender (for saponification process), a
soap mold, soap pot, rubber spatulas, large stainless steel or plastic ladle,
protective goggles, protective rubber hand gloves, Quick reading and accurate
thermometer. You will also need supply of lye solution, oils, additives
(colorants), and fragrances, amongst others.
You
would quite agree that there are loads of liquid soaps out there in the market
that you may have to compete with. One of the things that you need to do to get
your own fair market share is to come out with a creative packaging for your
liquid soap. You might just have to consult a brand expert if you truly want to
make it big with your liquid soap making company.
You
might just have to be aggressive with advertising and marketing your liquid
soap because you would be competing with established liquid soap brands out
there. If you have taken your time to visit stores, then you may have realized
that there are different liquid soap brands on the various shelves you come
across.
Part
of what you need to do to gain your own market share is to bring down your
price a little bit, and then approach super marts around you and cut a good
deal with them to help you sell your liquid soaps.
These
are some of the steps you would need to act on to start your own liquid soap
making company from the scratch and then build it to profitability. Don’t
forget, you might have to be diligent, focused, and hardworking to be able to
make it big with this type of business.
